SPEED AND ICE: MORE THAN A HUNDRED AND TWENTY PILOTS WILL CONQUER THE FIRST ZHIGULI MILE

1 февраля 2024 г.From February 7 to 11, the First National Ice Speed Festival "Zhiguli Mile 2024" will be held in Togliatti. The event will take place on the ice of the Zhigulevsky Sea (Kuibyshev Reservoir), near the renovated embankment of the Avtozavodsky district of Tolyatti. The festival is supported by the Government of the Samara Region, the Administration of the Tolyatti City District and the title partner JSC AVTOVAZ.
More than one hundred and twenty pilots applied to participate in the First National Ice Speed Festival. All of them will fight for the opportunity to become the first record holders of the Zhiguli Mile, as well as for the title of a new absolute record holder.
Among the participants is the most titled factory team in Russia, LADA Sport ROSNEFT, which last year for the first time became a participant in the winter Festival of Speed - the fifth anniversary of the Baikal Mile. Pilots Vladimir Sheshenin, Kirill Ladygin and Mikhail Mityaev, multiple winners and prize-winners in various disciplines of motor sports, will perform in a specially prepared LADA NIVA Sport T2 rally-raid car. Vladimir Sheshenin currently also holds the absolute record (175.472 km/h) in the Formula LADA classification.
Vladimir Cherevan, master of sports, current champion and participant in the International Circuit Racing Series on historic cars, will join the races in LADA cars. At the start he will bring his two-liter VAZ-2101, specially prepared for participation in circuit racing.
The main distance for pilots will be the "Zhiguli Mile", equal to the historical length of the AVTOVAZ conveyor belt - 1433 m. Two tracks will be prepared on the ice of the Zhiguli Sea, where each pilot will be able to try to set a record both on the new "Zhiguli Mile" and on the distance well known to many as "Baikal mile" (1642 m). In addition, races of 1/4 and 1/8 miles will be held and an oval track will be prepared for the "race-pursuit" format, with a parallel start and a distance between participants equal to the highest point of the Zhiguli Mountains - 381.2 m
A rich program awaits the spectators of the Festival of Speed. In a specially equipped spectator area on the embankment, guests will be able to watch the races and the fight for new records from February 9 to 11. For convenience, screens will be installed with a live broadcast of everything that happens on the ice. During the festival, the Government of the Samara Region prepared a daily excursion tourism program for participants and guests both in the city of Togliatti and throughout the region.
